I had been looking for an art project to do as we finish up the unit on California Missions. I couldn't find anything that I wanted to try with my class so I came up with this one. Very easy. We finished it in two class periods. The first class period we painted a sunset with tempera. I told the kids to paint yellow over the lower half of the page then orange, red, purple and blue to the top. The next class, I showed them photos of California Missions noting the architectural details that were common among all of them. They were told to draw the facade of a typical California Mission, cut it out and glue it to the sunset.
