Day Off

I'm a few hours from finishing a couple of paintings but as usual, I can't, won't. I need to step away, take some time off, maybe even a day out of town,...but for today an afternoon trolling through antique shops will be the escape I need.  First a stop at Starbucks and then it's time for my afternoon treasure hunt.  I don't go to antique shops to look at Baccarat crystal of Limoges dinnerware...don't get me wrong, I love the stuff. I go to get into the antique trenches, meaning I find the back corners, the downstairs, the treasures buried deep. I love the smell of old quilts gently folded at the bottom of an old chest. I love old Midwestern overalls with patches lovingly sewn on,  and I especially love to find old paintings abandoned in the shadows. This is my nourishment when I feel distracted. I paint scenes from a time gone by and this wonderful old stuff inspires me :)

Quote of the Day: "Even as I wander
                              I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
on a cold, dark winter's night"
